Welcome to China!!

Upon arrival at Chengdu Airport, you will be met by your tour guide and escorted to your hotel. The city of Chengdu is famed for its cuisine, particularly for its spicy Sichuan peppercorns. Take some time to relax and prepare for your full day tour tomorrow.

Day 3

Chengdu

Today, you may enjoy a day of leisure, exploring the city at your own pace. Chengdu is host to a great number of historical and cultural sites, so be sure to ask your tour guide for advice on the best places to visit. Alternatively, you can join a selection of optional tours with our experienced local guide.

Day 4

Chengdu

Head to the Jinli Old Street; an area unique for it a fusion of ancient and modern China. The shop keepers, waiters and dress in traditional style clothing, making this street feel as though you have stepped back in time. Spend the afternoon perusing the old street at your leisure before heading back to the hotel.

Day 5

Chengdu - Beijing 

Today you will be transferred to Beijing, the capital city of China.

Upon arrival at Beijing Capital International Airport you will be met by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel. Take some time to relax and prepare for your tour tomorrow.

Day 6

Beijing

After breakfast, set out with your trip leader to discover Beijing’s imperial treasures. Stand in Tiananmen Square, one of the largest and grandest public plazas in the world before progressing on to the Forbidden City. Enter the imposing walls of the Forbidden City, once the exclusive domain of the Ming Dynasty, for an exclusive tour through this vast complex of courtyards and lanes. Take a rickshaw tour of the traditional Hutong areas, famous for the oldstyle buildings, and timehonoured workshops. Enjoy a meal with a local family here before retiring to your hotel.

Day 7

Beijing

Travel into the rugged mountain landscapes north of the city to the magnificent Great Wall of China. Once on top of this ancient defensive structure, you’ll find that some sections are quite steep, but the views are magnificent and the experience is truly unforgettable.

You will then learn about Jade, China’s most precious and celebrated stone, and its manufacturing process at the largest Jade factory in Beijing. Later, visit the 2008 Olympic Games Sites including the Bird’s Nest and Water Cube. After your day of exploring, experience the oriental foot massage at a traditional Chinese medical centre where you will learn about alternative treatments for illness and have the chance to consult a Chinese Medical professional.

Day 8

Beijing

In the morning, you will practice Tai Chi in the Temple of Heaven. Tai Chi is an internal martial art system which places emphasis on the development and control of Chi (consciousness) energy within the body. The Temple of Heaven a sprawling complex of religious buildings located in the south-eastern section of central Beijing. The site was constructed by the emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties who would host annual ceremonies of prayer for good harvest here.

Day 9

Beijing – Xi’an

Today, you will be transferred from Beijing to Xi'an via bullet train.

Upon arrival in Xi’an, you will be met by your tour guide and escorted to your hotel. Xi’an is one of the oldest cities in all of China, with a history of over 3,000 years. As one of the four great ancient capitals, it served as the capital city during several of the most significant dynasties in China’s history. Xi’an is now home to a great number of precious and ancient relics, but is best known as the starting point of the famous Silk Road and where the towering Terracotta Army can be found. Take some time to relax ahead of your full day tomorrow.

Day 10

Xi’an

Today you will learn about over 1000 years of Xi’an history, which served as China’s capital for 13 dynasties and visit the Terracotta Warriors Site, considered the eighth wonder of the world and discovered by accident in 1974. Wear comfortable shoes today as, you will explore the army of over 7000 soldiers, archers, horses and chariots that has guarded Emperor Qin’s tomb since 210BC. Each figure is unique and the painstaking repair and evacuation continues to this day. On the way to the terracotta warriors, you will also visit an excellent factory where you can learn more about the creation, conservation and history of the Warrior vaults. After lunch, walk through the famous Moslem Street, where many delicious foods and souvenirs are available for purchase.

Day 11

Xi’an

Today, you will visit the Wild Goose Pagoda which was once used by a large team of scholars to translate the Buddhism Scriptures into Chinese and has subsequently become a holy place for pilgrims. Later, you will explore the Ancient City Wall which is one of the oldest and best-preserved city walls in all of China.

In the evening, you may choose to enjoy a night of leisure or join our optional Tang Dynasty Show Performance and Dumpling Banquet.

Day 12

Xi’an - Hangzhou

Today you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Hangzhou. Upon arrival at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport you will be met by your tour guide and transferred to your hotel. Take some time to relax and prepare for your tour tomorrow.

Day 13

Hangzhou

Today, your will embark on a tour of Hangzhou city - renowned for its beauty and abundance of cultural heritage. It is also the political, economic and cultural centre of the Zheijang Province and one of the most popular tourist destinations in China. You will then visit the West Lake area in Hangzhou, comprising of the West Lake and the surrounding hills, which have inspired famous poets, scholars and artists since the 9th Century. It is considered one of the most beautiful landscapes in China, and is home to numerous temples, pagodas, pavilions, gardens, causeways and artificial islands. While you’re in the West Lake scenic area, visit to tea plantation, here you will learn about tea picking and processing.

In the evening, you may choose to attend the Romance of Song Dynasty Show featuring colourful costumes dancing, acting and acrobatics and tells the story of the five areas of Hangzhou.

Day 14

Hangzhou – Suzhou

Today, you will be transferred from Hangzhou to Suzhou via bus.

Upon arrival, spend some time exploring the Master of the Nets Garden it is one of the finest gardens in China, and for which Suzhou is renowned. You will explore the garden and admire the effortless cohesion of art, nature and architecture that has attracted thousands of visitors since 1140CE.

Today's optional tours:

After lunch, you will have the option to take a boat trip along the longest canal in the world - Suzhou's Grand Canal. Some sections date as far back as the 5th century BC and it is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site - there are many beautiful homes to admire along this impressive waterway.

Day 15

Suzhou - Shanghai 

After breakfast, spend the morning perusing the most famous silk factory in China to understand the manufacturing processes of silk and its rich history in China before being transferred to Shanghai via bus. Upon arrival, you will visit the Nanjing walking district and discover the history and culture of Shanghai. You will then continue to the Bund by the Huangpu River, and witness the old meeting the modern side of the city.

Today's optional tours:

Enjoy an optional evening on the Huangpu River Cruise, allowing you to take in the famous sites of Shanghai including; the People’s Hero Monument, the Bund, the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, the dramatic skyline of the Pu Dong business district, the bustling International Passenger Station of Shanghai Harbor, the docks and the Wu Song ancient gun fort relics.

Day 16

Shanghai

Day 17

Shanghai – Yichang, Yangtze River Cruise

Today you will be transferred from Shanghai to Yichang by high speed train. Upon arrival, you will board the Yangtze River Cruise ship so you can settle in before departure tomorrow. The expansive Yangtze River is the largest river in Asia and the third largest in the world. It is renowned not only for its impressive size, but also for the natural beauty of its surrounds. The river begins in the remote mountainous regions and winds its way through stunning gorges, lush and fertile regions and connects with numerous lakes and waterways.

Day 18

Yangtze River Cruise 

Today’s activities include an optional a shore excursion to the Three Gorges Dam Site. The Three Gorges Dam Site is one of the largest construction projects undertaken by mankind and is the biggest hydropower project in the world. Visit the Tribe of the Three Gorges, the only large scenic spot that has not be influenced by the Three Gorges Dam project, which showcase the abundant Ba Culture and Shu Culture. This evening you will return to the ship and attend the Captain’s Welcome Banquet and enjoy the evening entertainment with a Chinese dancing ball.

Day 19

Yangtze River Cruise

Enjoy an optional shore excursion to Lesser Three Gorges - a shining pearl hidden in remote mountains. You will leave your cruise ship and board smaller vessels to sail through the narrower and breathtaking Lesser Three Gorges region, lined by sheer cliffs and mountains. Along the Yangtze River you will appreciate the beauty of the Qutang Gorge and Wu Gorge and visit the ancient plank road, Mengliang Stairway and the Hanging Coffins. Visit the White Emperor City on a second optional excursion, an ancient temple that is located atop Baidi Mountain on the northern bank of the Yangtze River in Fengjie County. You will then return to the ship and continue sailing into the western section of Xiling Gorge.

Day 21

Yangtze River Cruise – Chongqing – Departure

Today, you will disembark the cruise ship and be transferred to Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport for your scheduled flight home or you may choose to extend your stay and continue to explore other mesmerising cities. We hope you enjoyed your journey to China with us!
